£6m development date is Bucking the trend
The new development consists of eight shops including an Italian restaurant and delicatessen, a chippy, an estate agent, an Indian takeaway and a hairdressing salon and 30 apartments
Work will start this autumn on a £6m development of retail units and restaurants.
Eden Park Developments unveiled the final plans for the nineacre site in Buckshaw Village at a consultation event for residents.
An application was approved by Chorley Council back in 2008, but the long-awaited next phase of development for 30 apartments and eight shops is expected to begin in September or October.
Among the interested parties looking to move beside the Tesco store include an Italian restaurant and delicatessen, fish and chip shop, an estate agent, an Indian takeaway and hairdresser.
The move comes after it was announced that the Buckshaw Village train station will also open this autumn.
Neal Dale, development manager for the project, said: “It has been a turbulent few years trying to get the last pieces of the jigsaw together.
“The general economic climate has been slow, but everything is coming together and I have got the impression that the new train station is a catalyst to bring firms to the area.
“On the parade, we now have three premises let out, two others are solicitors hands negotiating contracts and we are in detailed discussions with another.
“We believe that is enough to start work and when there is a lot more activity on the site it will encourage more businesses to come to the area.”
The purpose of the public exhibition was to allay fears by residents about new office blocks and warehouse space dwarfing their homes.
Businessman Simon Gough is submitting an application this month for his insurance firm, which will be setting up in the offices.
He said: “We are looking to provide employment for 100 people and want to look in the local community.
“We are a call-centre based business and could be asking for mums who want to work four or five hours a day and then look after their kids.”
Mr Dale added: “We had a lot of very encouraging comments by the visitors to the two-day consultation.
“We welcomed the opportunity to gauge people’s views and on the whole they were positive.”
It is a further boost for the village after the Lancashire Evening Post revealed in April that supermarket giant Waitrose had been given the green light for a regional distribution centre.
