£3m recycling centre to open

A recycling centre which has undergone a £3m improvement is set to reopen.

Farington Recycling Centre, on Flensburg Way, Leyland, is one of the busiest in the county.

It has been shut while works have been carried out including a new layout, a new system for emptying skips, and new facilities to recycle glass, cardboard and wood.

County Coun Albert Atkinson, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, said: “The new recycling centre will be a much-improved facility which will make it quicker and easier for the people of South Ribble and the surrounding area to recycle their waste.

“Because the recycling centre layout has been changed, there will be no need to close the gates while wagons are emptying or replacing the containers.

“This will cut down on queuing traffic on Flensburg Way.

“The temporary recycling centre at Lancashire Business Park will be open until 5pm on December 31.

“There will be a couple of days gap until Farington reopens and we’d ask people to use other centres such as those on Tom Benson Way, Preston, and Coppull Road, Chorley until Farington re-opens on January 4.”

The centre will be able to recycle most types of household rubbish when it re-opens, however it will not be able to accept rubble and plasterboard until late January.
