DESCRIPTION: My role within the area is to raise funds to support the local Marie Curie Cancer Care Nursing Service. The Marie Curie nurses provide one to one nursing care within a patient's home. This is usually during the night to allow the regular carers/family members get a good nights sleep. Marie Curie nurses care for terminally ill patients, who have chosen to remain at home to die, rather than ending their days in a hospice or a hospital. The service is totally free to the patients and their families, but currently costs approx. £20.00 per hour to provide.
