Men who find themselves victims of domestic violence can now seek help from Preston Women's Refuge.
The news comes just days after the Lancashire Evening Post launched its Live In Hope campaign to highlight the thousands of victims of domestic violence and raise £25,000 to save the Hope Centre, Preston, a lifeline for women fleeing abuse.
Valeri
e Wise, director of Preston Women's Refuge, made the announcement during the Preston Domestic Violence Inter-Agency Forum's annual general meeting.
She revealed the charity is already helping two men who have both been abused by their adult sons.
Male victims can now access a range of support through the women's refuge, including the 24-hour domestic violence helpline, counselling and the Sanctuary Scheme, which enables vulnerable people to stay in their own homes with a range of security measures and emotional support.
Mrs Wise, who is also vice-chairman of the Forum, said it has always been her philosophy to continue to expand the range of services the charity offers.
Having established the refuge as a specialist service in Preston, they wanted to see how they can support men.
