A mum whose son almost died after being hit by an off-road motorbike has vowed to raise £5,000 for the North West Air Ambulance which, she believes, saved his life.
Ryan Fisher, 17, suffered a fractured skull, fractured neck and broke bones in both his eye socket and the roof of his mouth in the accident in Bamber Bridge last July.

He spent four days in intensive care at Royal Preston Hospital and only recent
ly returned to work, after six months off.

Mum Lesa Fisher, 38, of Clayton Brook, said "I had dropped him off by the land near B&Q at Bamber Bridge at about 7pm because he had gone to watch people riding the bikes. At 7.20pm I got a phone call saying he had been knocked over.

"The person on the other end of the phone said he was bleeding from his ears, eyes, nose and mouth. I knew it was bad and just started screaming."

By the time she arrived on site paramedics were already there, giving the boy oxygen and waiting for the air ambulance. Within a few minutes it was at the scene and two minutes later, Ryan was at the hospital.

Mrs Fisher said: "We were told they were monitoring him on an hour by hour to live basis. Without the air ambulance he wouldn't be here now. The only way I can think to say thank you is to raise some money."

With a target of £5,000 by the end of 2007, she has already raised over £300 with a collection at Bamber Bridge pubs. Other events are planned, including fund-raisers by Clayton Brook and Lostock Hall schools, a charity auction and a disco.

The manager of Bamber Bridge leisure centre has volunteered to have his head shaved and Lesa's husband Brian, 42, plans a sponsored back and chest wax. To donate ring 0151 5477830 and quote Ryan Fisher Fundraising Appeal.
