A pioneering pesticide firm in Preston has signed the first major deal to sell its insect control spray across in Africa.
Plant Impact plc has reached the agreement with crop protection firm DVA Agro GmbH to distribute its benign pest control product Bionic, the trademark of its insect control agent BugOil, in Tanzania.

The company, which has its head office on Locks
ide Road on the city's docks, will target the product at the country's ornamental rose production market which is worth more than £200m a year.

Chief executive Peter Blezard said: "This is the first commercial agreement for our BugOil technology in a highly competitive, high-value specialty market that has global implications for the floricultural industry, especially in East Africa, Central America and the Netherlands."

He said the spray would be used to control spider mites, which can devastate rose crops in Tanzania, and field trials have proven the spray can control the bugs within three days of application.
