A landmark legal ruling has seen a Preston solicitor appointed to head the licensing department of law firm Napthens. Malcolm Ireland, 26, successfully represented brewery Daniel Thwaites in a judicial review over a magistrate's decision to cut the opening hours of a Wirral pub.
The decision set a legal precedent under the Licensing Act 2003 and saw him promoted at Napthens Solicitors.
The UCLan graduate worked for Roscoes as a trainee and moved to after the 2006 merger of the two practices.
Leisure expert Len Bell, above, whose previous roles include financial director at luxury holiday home group Haulfryn, will head the leisure division at business advisors Champion Accountants which has offices in Preston and Southport.

A Preston firm which specialises in advising entrepreneurs has made two new appointments.
Jonathan Powell and Lewis Saltariche have joined Tenon's office on Market Street West in the city as a corporate tax manager and business services manager respectively.

Wills expert Clare Love has become a partner at one of Lancashire's oldest law firms.
The 31-year-old, who was born in Samlesbury, near Preston, has taken up the role with Oglethorpe, Sturton and Gillibrand in Lancaster which she has worked for since qualifying seven years ago.
